A Sliver of Sky
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
You have been cast into the zindan of the zordar, doomed to forget and be forgotten. But there is something you seek, and far above you a sliver of sky still shines down. Can you beat the obstacles and climb all the way back to the open sky? And what use will you find for Whisper, the strange shadow that lurks by your feet?
A Sliver of Sky is a turn-based roguelike where enemies can only be defeated by stunning them, grabbing them, and throwing down a deep chasm at the centre of each level. You must move and position yourself carefully to defeat enemies and avoid getting thrown down the chasm yourself. You can also switch control to a shadow who follows you, aids you by weakening enemies, and comments on your progress.
Though the game progression always resets on death, some elements of the story are told across multiple runs.

Cool looking sprites! :D Reminds me a bit of The Last Ninja 2, for some reason, just looking at the screenshots.
The story is beautifully told, and lends itself very well to the roguelike format, the second character is also a very interesting innovation that ties strongly into the narrative.
The grab and toss combat took a bit to get used to, but was very satisfying once I got the hang of it. The game got significantly easier once I realized throwing was a free action, but tossing people around everywhere was very satisfying, so no complaints there.
I did run into one bug while playing, the later floors sometimes fail to generate, which lost me two runs that went quite late. Clearing the early floors was very easy once I knew what I was doing, so not a huge amount of time lost, though it was frustrating to lose the runs. Overall I think it took me about 8 runs to beat, including those two lost runs.
Thanks for the feedback! I think you might be the first to properly beat it :)
I had a couple of issues with level generation bugs in playtesting, but I thought I'd resolved those. I'll have to give it more of a look. Losing a run to that must be frustrating!
